The 8th of the 15 new passenger vessels constructed by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality at Özata Shipyard in Yalova, named Cengiz Kocatoros, has started its testing procedures in the Gulf.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality brought together the passenger vessel bearing the name of Karşıyaka’s unforgettable football player, known as “Gode Cengiz,” Cengiz Kocatoros, with Izmir Gulf on the 103rd anniversary of Karşıyaka Sports Club. The 9th vessel, named after Göztepe legend Gürsel Aksel, will join the fleet on New Year’s Eve.
The 8th of the 15 new passenger vessels, built by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality at Özata Shipyard and named by the people of Izmir, has been completed and brought to the city. The testing procedures for the vessel named after the legendary football player of Karşıyaka Sports Club, “Gode Cengiz” Cengiz Kocatoros, have started in the Gulf. It was announced that the vessel, whose name was engraved on its hull on Kocatoros’s birthday on September 5th, would start its voyages shortly.
Gürsel Aksel on January 1st
The name of Gürsel Aksel, who played for Göztepe Sports Club for 17 years, serving as captain for 11 years, will be given to the ninth ship joining the fleet on his birthday, January 1st. It is planned that the name of the next vessel will be Sait Altınordu, synonymous with Altınordu club. Following that, vessels carrying the names of Vahap Özaltay and Metin Oktay will meet Izmir Gulf.
Who is Cengiz Kocatoros?
Born in 1943, Cengiz Kocatoros, known as “Gode Cengiz” in the football world, played football for many years at Karşıyaka Sports Club. Raised at Karşıyaka High School, the athlete stood out during that period with his powerful structure and headed goals. Applauded for his game from the very beginning of his football career, Gode Cengiz also experienced the honour of wearing the national team jersey. The great footballer bid farewell to life at a very young age on June 23, 1985, due to a brain haemorrhage.
